Our business has been established since 1986, and is run by Peter Tansley and Sarah Norris and we have a Local Authority license for 40 dogs and for 20 cats. The kennels and cattery are set in sixteen acres of private farmland along the old main road which is now a cul-de-sac, within a mile from the A1 road, and the same distance south of the village of Belford, which is half way between Berwick upon Tweed to the north, and Alnwick to the south. The fields where the dogs are walked on extender leads, are owned by us and there is no danger of meeting any unauthorised animals or people. Also, there are no other inhabitations situated closeby, so any noisy dogs are not necessarily a nuisance.

The dogs are housed in a single storey building with large units for families of dogs, medium units for two animals, down to smaller units for singles. We provide our own baskets which are placed on pallets, but we encourage customers to bring their own bedding having odours familiar to the animals. We use wood shavings on the floor to expedite easy and frequent cleaning if and when necessary, and we have two large isolation rooms for any animals in season, and where separation is deemed appropriate.

The cats are housed in a separate building well away from the kennels, where the pens are a metre square, and where all the animals are allowed out in turn so that they can get their preferred exercise. They are never allowed out of this large building. Families of cats are catered for by lifting partitions so that they can all be together, and still enjoy their individual space. No cats are perpetually confined. All the dogs are walked around the fields twice a day, once in the early morning, and again in the late afternoon. It is our policy to feed the main meal at midday so when walked later, they are comfortable for the night. We find that this daily program is the most appropriate for the dogs, and breaks up the day for them. The cats are fed twice a day, once in the early morning, and again in the late afternoon

All animals brought for our care have to be accompanied by a current vaccination certificate, or no admission can take place. Our preferred times for admission and collection are at 9am, 11.30am and between 4pm and 5pm. These times are by no means rigid, and other arrangements can be made. In effect, we are open while we are awake!

We provide meat and/or biscuits for the dogs, or a dried food which is a top of the range diet. A good tinned meat is served to the cats, with or without additional biscuits, as customers prefer, but customers are welcome to bring their own food. We also administer any current medication, all at no extra cost to the basic charge.

Although the construction of these well lit buildings lends itself to keeping the animals warm in the colder months, we provide individual one-amp heat lamps for additional comfort, and merely charge the cost for the consumed electricity. The cattery enjoys a large central radiator, but heat lamps are available here also.

All animals that come to the kennels for a period of boarding are fully insured for the duration of their stay, which includes vet’s fees and all other necessary cover. This is included in the price which can be quoted on request. In the event of any medical attention being necessary for any of the boarders, their own Vet would be contacted first whenever possible, or failing that, our own Vetinary Surgeon would attend.

We are quite happy to collect and deliver both dogs and cats if transport is a problem. We make a charge for this service which is cheaper than a taxi fare.

We also cater for long term boarders, and stress that all the animals under our care are under 24 hour supervision. Equally, we cater for day boarding aswell.

We are open all the year round, without any exceptions, and welcome and, indeed, prefer to have potential customers view our enterprise before making any commitment.

As stated, we have been running the kennels and cattery since 1986, and thoroughly enjoy our business. We hope that this is reflected in the health and wellbeing of the animals in our care.

Our telephone number is 01668-213607 and we can be contacted anytime. When we are both walking the animals and therefore cannot get to answer the telephone, twelve rings will activate our answer machine, if not already on, which will record any messages, so we can get back to you.
